Values
& Beliefs
Overview
The people who come together to form a group or team bring a myriad
of values and beliefs that reflect their life’s learning from
childhood on. Some values and beliefs will be held in common, while
others may conflict. Different values can offer the team a rich
diversity of opinion. They can also be the source of much disagreement
and disharmony, and lead to poor performance. It’s very useful
to understand the effect of values and beliefs on teams.
This
exercise, coupled with a discussion of values and beliefs, highlights
differences in a simple but powerful way. It:
Inspires collaboration and problem solving.
Improves relationships.
Decreases values-based
conflict.
Reveals the
strength of diverse skills and experiences.
Challenges people
to test their assumptions.
