9 Things to Store in Your Glove Box
Sue Brenner, PCC

Have you ever gotten in an accident only to find you didn't have a first aid kit? Have you been pulled over and scrambled to find your proof of insurance? Be prepared for life's minor inconveniences and emergencies alike. Keep these 9 important things in your glove box.

  1. Car Registration

You definitely want to have this handy if you happen to get pulled over. Be able to readily prove that you own the car you're driving.

  2. Proof of Insurance

While not every country requires proof of insurance, many do (like most European countries and the U.S.). Keep yours in easy reach in the glove box.

  3. First-aid Kit

Whether you need a Band-Aid or rubbing alcohol, keep a small First-aid kit readily available. Then you won't have to run to the store for simple care.

  4. Disposable Camera

These days, most of you can use your cell phone in the event you want to quickly document a crash. If you don't, store a disposable camera in your glove box.

  5. Notepad and Pen

Again, your cell phone can come in handy to enter in someone's name and insurance info in the event of an accident. But a pen and paper is easier.

  6. Flashlight

Your car stalls in the dark. You'll want to grab a flashlight from your glove box. Select one that doesn't require batteries, like a hand crank-powered one.

  7. Mobile Phone Charger

Inching along in traffic and need to call your next appointment? Keep your cell charger within arm's reach. Be able to communicate when you need to.

  8. Insurance Phone Number

Store your insurance phone number. Also keep towing service and auto shop numbers. Know who to call for a tow and exactly where to tow your car.

  9. Help Sign

In an emergency, you don't want to waive down traffic for help. Keep a pre-made "Help" sign ready. Grab and display if you need it.

Having what you need, when you need it, right there in your glove box will reduce the stress of emergencies. Take the time in advance to stock your box. Then you'll have what you need to handle unexpected situations.
